THE CONTEST IS CLOSED: THE WINNER IS KATRINA! CONGRATULATIONS!
A TRUE CRIME MEMOIR:
A TRUE CRIME MEMOIR:
Laurie Bembenek was convicted of murdering her
husband's ex-wife, Christine Schultz, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on May
28, 1981. Her story garnered national attention after she escaped from
Taycheedah Correctional Institution with the help of Milwaukee factory
worker DOMINIC GUGLIATTO,
a brother of another inmate. Gugliatto met Bembenek in prison and had
fallen in love with her. The fugitive couple were "on the run seeking
love, justice and freedom" as Gugliatto's father would claim. This
daring escapade has inspired books and movies. The slogan "Run, Bambi,
Run" was created and printed on T-shirts.
This is DOMINIC GUGLIATTO'S story. He reveals the truth and lies surrounding the escape and what happened on the run.
**Contest: KELLY MORAN is giving away an e-book copy of YOU NEVER HAVE TO REMEMBER THE TRUTH
to one lucky commenter. Don't forget to leave your e-mail so Kelly may
contact you if you should win. CONTEST ends on Sat. April 14th at
12:00pm PST.
It
was one of the most sensational murder cases in
U.S. history. Lawrencia
"Bambi" Bembenek, a former Playboy waitress and ex-Milwaukee police officer, was
arguably railroaded and convicted of murder. When all hope of proving her
innocence seemed lost, she planned a daring escape from prison with her
boyfriend, and together the lovers slipped into
Canada under
assumed names. Now, nearly twenty years after the escape, Dominic Gugliatto
wants to set the record straight.
The man who laid it all on the line tells a different tale — one of
deception and betrayal. For the first time, Gugliatto speaks out about the lies
and secrets long buried. That Bembenek knew more about the murder than she
professed, and that the prison escape involved co-conspirators, including a
retired
Milwaukee police officer. The truth is coming, told by the only
man who knows it all.

Thanks so much for having me, Karen.
Kelly,
I'm so glad you could be here today. What an interesting book. I didn't know anything about this case until now. Thanks for sharing it with us.
A lot of people may not know it, but it truly is fascinating. I'm glad I did this, but sure will stick with my imaginery friends and fiction from now on! XO
Hi kelly, just read the description of the book and it sounds extremely interesting. Can't wait to read it after reading your fiction books. Good luck with this book and future projects

I love reading about true events and this sounds really interesting. I hadn't heard of this one either.
I have a question: Did you find it difficult to write about a true story than writing fiction?

Hi Kelly,
Interesting. I like my romance, but a true life story has me intrigued.

Hi Katrina. Though the story got national attention, it was most popular in Wisconsin and Ontario Canada. I'm still shocked how many people outside those areas remember, though. And this was hard to write. In fiction, when things don't go right, I can change it. Every detail of this book had to be correct and varified. A daunting task. Again, so happy I did it, but man... never again. Thanks for the interest. XO
Hi Cathy. I'm a romance reader and writer normally too. I think the biggest reason I agreed to do this was the romance behind it actually. Sigh. The things we do for love. Anyway, thanks for the interest. XO
Kelly,
I love watching true life stories on TV. This story sounds really good.
Please enter me in the contest.

Thanks, Kendra! I hope you like it!
I can't believe I missed this! Yes I can. My internet has been iffy at best for the last week. lol I commend you for taking on such a daunting project, Kelly. Having some memory of this case from my (much) younger days, I am very interested to read this memoir from Nick. Great job. :)
Congratulations on crossing from fiction to non-fiction. I'm sure it made for interesting moments as you ensured you weren't crossing, or blurring, any lines. sounds quite daunting. Good luck with sales.
It was quite a project, and I will be sticking to fiction from now on, lol. Thanks for the interest, guys! XO
And the winner is...Katrina. Grats, you'll get an email soon. Big thanks to Karen for having me! XO
